Wilmington, Del. – The Ministry of Caring has received $2,500 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation just in time to help feed local residents. The Ministry of Caring will use the gift to provide meals to the hungry and homeless living locally.
“I admire Food Lion, who serves their neighbors as a trusted member of the business community, which not only provides an important service, but also creates employment. Food Lion is a company with a heart that is concerned about the hungry and the poor. They set the example for all of corporate America to do their part in serving the poor among us,” said Brother Ronald Giannone, OFM Cap., the Ministry of Caring’s founder and Executive Director.
The funds from Food Lion will be used to purchase food for the three Emmanuel Dining Room locations, supporting the Ministry’s mission to serve the poor and homeless with dignity and respect. The three locations of the Emmanuel Dining Room provide approximately 200,000 hot and nutritious meals annually, with two locations in Wilmington and one in New Castle. Other services provided by the Ministry include emergency shelter and transitional and permanent housing, child care, medical and dental services, and employment support, among others. The Ministry’s nineteen programs forge a network of care which promotes independence and self-sufficiency.
Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $9 million in grants.
