Just For Teens

Leslie E. Hermans

Leslie is a 17-year-old senior at Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School in West Chester, Pennsylvania. During a trip to Cambodia in 2009 with her grandparents, she had an “eye-opening experience” when she witnessed flashes of poverty more extreme than she had ever imagined. “When I thought of all the blessings that I have, I cried,” says Leslie. “My trip to Cambodia reinforced my desire to bless others more than ever.”

Biology, which helps her “appreciate the complexities of life,” is Leslie’s favorite subject in school. She plans to study art in college. She also is a talented swimmer, painter and photographer. Leslie lives in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, with her parents and her two brothers.

Megan Galardi

Megan is a senior at Wilmington Friends School. She started volunteering at the Ministry of Caring Child Care Center when she was in the sixth grade. She read to the children after school once a week. In high school she continued helping at the Child Care Center during holiday breaks. During the summer of 2009, she organized a weeklong carnival. Megan started the Junior Guild in 2009 and at a number of the Guild events, she put together auction baskets and sold raffle tickets. Her favorite event at the Ministry of Caring is the Voices of Caring in December, which benefits the child care programs.
